How To Pick A Prom Dress

Shopping intelligently is the key to getting a great prom dress.  This doesn’t just mean finding a good bargain, but it also means that you need to be able to tell quality fashions from those that are sub-par.  You’ll need to be able to judge the workmanship and the fabric quality of your dress in order to make sure that whatever savings you’ll be receiving won’t be at the cost of a great dress.  Equally, though, just because a dress is the most expensive, doesn’t mean that it is the best one out there.  It only means that it costs the most.  The odds are, if it has the biggest price tag, then it’s the one that has had the most advertising, not that it’s the best possible product.  For this reason, a high price should never be the reason that you buy a prom dress.

The first factor you should consider is your body type.  Forget, for a while what you see in magazines and on fashion runways, and think logically.  Magazines are built to sell to your dreams - however, what you look like in your dreams may not be exactly what you’ll look like in those prom pictures. Choosing the best gown to suit your body is the most important element of your decision.

After you know the design of your dress, you’ll want to consider the actual quality of the article.  You’ll need to be capable of recognizing the difference between quality and shoddy merchandise.  Because if you wear a poor quality gown, it will show.  Something will simply look off.  You won’t look half as good as you could.  Some of the things you should look for are:

?         Manufacturing process - this means the method used to make the dress.  Check the seams for straightness and even stitching.  Are the sleeves well finished?  Have a look at the hems and the way they are finished.  Does the dress have a lining? When you wear the dress, does it flow evenly, or do the seams make the dress look lopsided? Is the neckline centered?

?         Fabric - The better the fabric, the better the dress will hang.  A better quality fabric will also feel better on.  You can usually tell the quality of a fabric simply by touching it.  A good indication of the quality of fabric is a manufacturer’s fabric guarantee.  Check out the websites for the different manufacturers to get a good idea of who offers what.  If the websites state that the fabric is among the best anywhere, or something along those lines, then you should feel pretty confident about the quality, since once its in print, the manufacturer is liable, and can be sued for lying.  They simply won’t take that chance.

?         Fit - once you’ve found that the dress is quality, and it’s the right design, make sure that it fits right.  This means that it should be comfortable, and flatter you.  If it doesn’t fit, you simply won’t feel beautiful in it.  If you can’t get a certain dress that fits perfectly, move on to the next dress, or get it altered.

These are the most important factors to making sure that your prom dress leads to the most wonderful prom night ever.  Have fun, and make beautiful memories!
